'Inside Bordeaux'

On 21 March, NIWSI was delighted to welcome renowned Bordeaux expert Jane Anson who gave an enlightening and entertaining tasting of wines from some of the best chateaux on the left and right banks. 

Jane is the author of ‘Inside Bordeaux’ – described by Le Figaro as ‘the bible of Bordeaux – comprehensive, engaging, informative, and available at a special price to members of NIWSI.

It’s not often we get a guided tasting of wines aged 20 years and more from world-famous chateaux such as Chateau Batailley 2005 (Pauillac), Chateau Phelan Segur 2000 (St Estephe) Chateau Léoville Barton (St Julien) Dufort Vivens (Margaux). All reds aged beautifully with soft tannins and remarkably fresh fruit. 

We began our tasting with a much younger white – a glass of 2019 Les Hauts de Smith, 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Chateau Smith Haut Lafite. The latter has had some publicity recently because King Charles is going there on his, postponed, State Visit visit to France. You can buy a bottle from JN Wine in Crossgar  and drink like a king.
